JERSEY ? WHAT EXIT?

“Jersey? What exit?” If you’re from New Jersey, you’ve answered this question a thousand times — and asked it just as many. It’s not just small talk. In the Garden State, your exit number is your identity.

The Parkway Is a Personality Test

Exit 165? You’re basically New York. Exit 98? Central Jersey beach territory. Exit 63? Welcome to the pines. Down past 30? You’re South Jersey and proud of it. The number you give tells a Jersey person everything: your pizza allegiance, your beach, your Wawa versus QuickChek vote.

The Turnpike Has Its Own Culture

The Turnpike is business — exits 13A through 18W, the Vince Lombardi rest stop, the eternal question of whether to take the eastern or western spur. Parkway people and Turnpike people are different breeds, and they know it.

Why Exits Instead of Towns?

Because New Jersey has 565 municipalities and nobody can keep them straight. But everyone knows the exits. Saying “Exit 135” is faster than “Clark, Union County” and infinitely more Jersey. It’s efficient. We’re efficient people.

The Great Exit Debates

Ask a group of Jersey people to rank exits and watch a civil war break out. Is 105 (Asbury/Tinton Falls) elite? Is 82 (Seaside) overrated? Does anything below Exit 0 even count? (Cape May people, we see you, and yes it counts.)

So — What Exit Are You?

Drop your exit in the comments. No context, no explanation. Real ones will know exactly what it means. 🛣️
